To honour Bill and motivate others to replicate his values, the Bill desBarres Commitment to Volunteerism Scholarship has been established beginning in 2025. This scholarship celebrates the vital role of volunteerism in building vibrant, resilient communities by recognizing a Grade 12 student in the Medicine Hat and surrounding communities who has demonstrated a commitment to community service.

Through this award, we celebrate Bill’s extraordinary example and aim to encourage others to embrace volunteerism as a powerful force for positive change. Bill’s tireless service to the Community reminds us all of the importance of stepping forward, giving back, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
